How do I sign my child up for Cub Scout Pack 525?
Our Pack meets year round, with activities during the school year and summer. Boys and girls are welcome to join the pack at any time during the year. Please contact us (tracycubpack525@gmail.com), and we will be happy to send you information about visiting our next pack meeting.
How much does it cost?
Cub Scouts is a year round program, and is very affordable compared to seasonal sports. Registration dues are $155, this includes National and Council membership fees of a 12-month period, plus a$25 new member joining fee. Additional to this, there is a program fee of $120 that is paid to Pack 525 to cover program materials and awards. Program fee can be offset by participating in popcorn fundraiser during August-October.
This year we have calculated that it will take around $340 per scout to put on the Scouting Program, $155 of which is the National BSA and Greater Yosemite
Council Membership Fees. Pack 525 is only asking $275 as dues, and the rest is covered with fundraising. We expect and encourage all scouts to participate in the popcorn fundraiser.
Our goal is for no families to pay dues and instead pay Scouting through the Popcorn sales. The Pack will offset any dues each family will be asked to pay based on Popcorn sales. If your Scout reaches $1000* in sales, you will not pay any dues for the 2023-24 Scouting year. We have several Scouts that have reached and surpassed this goal! This chart outlines the amount owed if you reach smaller sales totals.
Popcorn Sales | Pack Dues |
$1000 | $0 |
$750 | $95* |
$500 | $155* |
$250 | $215 |
$125 | $245 |
$0 | $275** |
*These amounts are only for returning Scouts. New scouts registered on August 1, 2023, or after don’t have to pay dues to the Pack if they sell $500 in popcorn during the 2023 fundraiser since the National and Council membership fees ($155) will be already paid when a scout has registered online.
**This amount doesn’t include Scout Life magazine subscription. If your Scout would like to receive the magazine the cost is $15.
Uniforms, handbooks and pack t-shirts are not provided by the pack. Uniforms can be purchased by each family at the local Scout Shop or online at http://scoutshop.org.
Is Pack 525 affiliated with a specific religion?
Pack 525 welcomes families and scouts from many diverse cultures and religions. “Duty to God” is an important value in scouting, but faith and "Duty to God" can be different for each family. We encourage each family to talk about “Duty to God” in a way that is consistent with your family’s religion or spiritual beliefs.
Is Pack 525 inclusive?
Pack 525 celebrates diversity in every form. We welcome all families, and strive to teach our Cub Scouts about kindness, understanding and respect for all people.
If my child has special needs, can they still join?
Absolutely. The Cub Scout motto is “Do Your Best”, and each child’s personal best will be different from others. If you have questions about your child joining our pack, please contact us (tracycubpack525@gmail.com).
Can my daughter join?
The Boy Scouts of America introduced the “Scout Me In” movement in 2018, and began welcoming girls to join Cub Scouts. In 2020, Pack 525 formed our first girl Den, and are proud to be a family pack including boys and girls.
How does Pack 525 ensure the safety of children?
Pack 525 takes child safety VERY seriously. Every registered adult leader in the BSA is required to complete a comprehensive Youth Protection Training (YPT) course. Pack 525 requires that ALL parents in our pack complete YPT training, and we strictly adhere to all safety rules such as two-deep leadership.
